Artist Call

In a world fraught with the looming shadows of authoritarian regimes and global tumult, where the drums of war resonate across continents, there arises an urgent need to illuminate the human experience. We extend an invitation for collaboration to amplify this critical narrative on stage.

Amidst the discussions of economic, political, and environmental ramifications, it is imperative to delve into the profound, often obscured impacts on our society and humanity. The tales of human metamorphosis under oppressive regimes remain largely untold, yet their resonance reverberates deeply as tyranny tightens its grip worldwide. From the subtle encroachments on individual liberties to the brazen distortion of truth and the fostering of hatred, these regimes corrode the very fabric of our existence. It is time to unveil these narratives, empowering individuals to recognise the signs and stand vigilant against oppression.

Collaborating with charitable organisations, we have facilitated the escape of countless artists fleeing persecution and conflict. These voices, laden with the weight of oppression, seek refuge in our midst, yearning for expression and connection. Immigrant Opera endeavours to provide them with a platform, forging bonds across borders and sparking dialogues that transcend barriers.

Join us in illuminating the shadows, using the transformative power of opera and theatre to foster unity, understanding, and catalyse change. Let our collective voices resonate in harmony, weaving a tapestry of resilience and hope in the face of adversity.

Calling all artists who have recently immigrated away from political repressions and military conflict, stifled in expressing their voices out of fear for their freedom and their families' safety, marked as enemies of the public by oppressive regimes. We are seeking to illuminate the following themes:

Fragmentation of society and families

Imposition of patriotic indoctrination

Gaslighting and manipulation tactics

Persecution of independent thought

Irony and hypocrisy in societal norms

Devaluation of human life

Imposition of a rigid binary worldview

Legislation designed to suppress dissent

Manipulation of ideologies

We aim to highlight these and other injustices witnessed, aiming to shock the local UK democratic audience. You will have the opportunity to showcase and sell your work on stage at a prestigious theatrical event in London and online through our platform. The Immigrant Opera project, in collaboration with local industry luminaries, offers not only networking opportunities but also the chance to collaborate closely with UK's brightest industry leaders.

Through various mediums such as painting, musical performances, or costumed presentations, we seek to convey our urgent message. Submissions are welcome across all artistic disciplines, including dramaturgy, costume design, and set decoration, currently only UK based.

We are also seeking dramaturges, directors, actors, and other theatre professionals to craft a cohesive libretto that ties our showcase into a unified experience.

This opportunity offers industry-standard compensation and will receive extensive coverage in international media as well as many other potential benefits. Join us in shedding light on the human toll of totalitarian regimes and raising awareness of their emergence.

Let the UK public experience the urgency first hand.

Submission deadline 15 June 2025

Please submit your proposal to immigrantopera@gmail.com along with your artist statement and a brief story about your forced immigration.
Must be UK based or digital. Put your medium in the subject line.
